Now this is a tricky topic to talk about because there is always something special about all the seasons in Nepal. But, most visitors come to Nepal on Pre and Post Monsoon seasons because of the dry conditions.

If I were to choose, I would go with Post Monsoon as the best time to visit Nepal.

To make things simpler, I will be talking about Best time to visit Nepal with reasons, why most of the visitors come here during that time!

Sightseeing

First, let me talk about city sightseeing, in places like Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur and Pokhara. Any time of the year except Monsoon (because of the rain), would be good. That being said, Post Monsoon (Mid-September to November) would be an ideal time. This time of the year, there are mostly clear skies, sunshine, warm days, cool nights and dry environment. You can’t make it in Post Monsoon? Don’t worry! Pre-monsoon (March to Mid-June) would also be good but you will have to compromise a bit on mountain visibility.

If you are planning for mountain flights, October to February would be the best, with fewer clouds and fewer flight cancelations.

For Jeep Jungle Safaris and Elephant Rides in Chitwan National Park and also, the best time to spot wild animals would be from October to February.

Adventure

Trekking is one of the major reasons for tourists visiting Nepal. The peak time to trek in Nepal is Post Monsoon, with clear sky and spectacular views. The weather is also most favorable for trekking. For those of you who can’t make it during this time, February to April would be another option. Although the visibility of mountains can be a bit hazy, the blooming rhododendrons will compensate it.

Bungee Jump/ Swing is doable any time of the year but the best time would be either September to December or February to May. I am sure you would not want to walk up the hill in the rain, would you?

Moving on to Rafting/ Kayaking/ Canoeing, there are 10 rafting sections to choose from. October to Mid-December and March to May are the best times. In winter, the water is freezing cold and there are chances of Hypothermia (sounds scary right?). During monsoon (June to September), the white water sections are very dangerous but you can go for gentler stretches.

Paragliding would be best from November to February. Although, it is possible throughout the year when it is NOT raining. You can see the Annapurnas, Machapuchre, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and other mountains during your glide.

Culture

If you are an explorer of culture, Nepal is the place for you because there is always some festival going on throughout the year. I will be talking about the major festivals that attract visitors.

Dashain (September-October): It is regarded as the biggest festival of Nepal. The main attraction for you would be the Tika, when elders offer their blessings to the young ones . If you get invited, don’t miss the opportunity! There are even cultural events happening all around, and animal sacrifices are something that you might find interesting.

Tihar (November): Tihar is celebrated with decorative lights and colors. You can participate in the Deusi- Bhaili which involves singing, dancing and music performance in relatives’ houses.

Maha Shivaratri (February):
On this day, you will see devotees and Sadhus (wandering Saints) from Nepal and India in Pashupatinath Temple worshipping the Lord Shiva (Hindu God). You can smoke Ganja (Hemp) around the temple area as it is regarded as the Prasad (offering) of Lord Shiva.

Fagu Purnima (March): Quite similar to La Tomatina festival of Spain! The day of colors and water! I can assure you that you will have a great time.
